Traverse City Tops Rankings

For those of us that are fortunate to call Traverse City home we already know what a special place this is. However, it's always nice to hear what others have to say about this great town and our surroundings.  Over the past few months Traverse City has received several nice rankings with national exposure including:

AOL Travel News (June 2010) Traverse City was ranked in the list of "America's Top 10 Beach Towns". Got to love that sugar-sand.

AOL Travel News (June 2010) Traverse City was listed as one of the "Top 10 Coolest Towns in the States". What a great place to escape the summer heat.

Trip Advisor (May 2010)
Traverse City took the #2 spot of the "Top 10 list of Charming Small Towns" after surveying 200 American Cities. The #1 spot went to Carmel, CA. We can live with that. Trip Advisor also ranked Traverse City as one of "America's Top 10 Wine Destinations". We're not going to wine about that.

Livability.com (April 2010) Traverse City took the #1 spot on their list of Top 10 Surprising Foodie Towns. We're not surprised – but we love the #1 spot.

Discover Pure Michigan in Traverse City and we think you'll put us on the top of your list too.

TCCVB Newsletter Recap

TripAdvisor.com Names Traverse City one of Top Ten “Charming Small Towns”

TripAdvisor.com just gave Traverse City the second-place spot in its list
of Top Ten “charming small towns.” First place went to Carmel, Calif. (We
can live with that.) The other eight, in descending order, were
Charlottesville, Va. Telluride, Colo. Hood River, Ore. Fredericksburg,
Tex. Rockport, Mass. Camden, Maine, Cold Spring, NY and Galena, Ill.
Good company to be in!

And aolTravel Names Traverse City one of America’s Top Ten Beach Towns!

It’s almost an embarrassment of riches – but we’re not complaining.
Aol.com’s Travel pages just listed us among America’s Best Beach towns,
alongside such contenders as Provincetown, Mass., Boca Grande, Fla.
And Cannon Beach Ore. And Pismo Beach, Calif. “Traverse City's tawny
beaches and towering dunes merit the moniker Malibu of Michigan,” they
said. Holy Cow!

New “Foodie Festivals” Appear this August

Everybody in Traverse City seems to be jumping on the “foodie” bandwagon
again this year – and August seems to be the month for it! For the second
year in a row, Midwest Living named Traverse City one of its top five
Foodie Towns, and local chefs and wineries have decided to celebrate the
area’s food and drink in a big way.
Several events that were started in 2009 on a trial basis were so well
attended that they’ll be back this summer, including the Traverse City
Wine & Art Festival, which will be held on Aug. 21, featuring wines
from 22 Leelanau and Old Mission peninsula wineries with a selection of
food & desserts from local restaurants. And the Traverse City Summer
Microbrew & Music Festival, which drew over 3,000 participants last
year and has been expanded to two days -- August 27-28. (Musical headliners
for this summer’s festival include singer-songwriter Brett Dennen
and Grammy-winning band Ozomatli.)
But that’s not all. There are two entirely new events on tap for August:
First, on Aug. 6, the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula will present a
day-long celebration at Traverse City’s Open Space called Paella in the
Park – showing how well the Peninsula’s stunning wines pair with different
versions of Spain’s classic rice-based dish. Each of the seven Old
Mission wineries will host a tasting station featuring a chef from a local
restaurant who will present his own unique twist on paella -- using three
giant paella “pans.” Tickets are $26, and will include samples of seven different
paellas, three pours of wine, and live music. Additional wine can
be purchased by the glass. For more information call 231.223.4050
A week later, on Aug. 14, Food Network star and James Beard winner
Mario Batali returns to his beloved summer home for a spectacular outdoor
celebration of food and chefs, beer and wine, live music and the local
craft culinary culture. Featuring dishes inspired by and featured in Batali’s
cookbooks, this event (part of the National Writers Series) will be held on
the Historic Front Lawn of the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. For

Basse Family: "Lifetime of Memories" at Pointes North

I am writing this letter to tell you about my experience with Pointes North.  My family and I have enjoyed owning a condominium for almost 18 years.  During this time, we have created a lifetime of memories.  The town of Traverse City offers world class amenities, such as the picturesque bay, restaurants, shopping, golf, skiing and cultural events.  We use the condo as a jumping off point for trips to Mackinac and the Upper Peninsula.  The availability of renting other rooms has allowed us to vacation with friends and extended family.  We enjoy the opportunity to stay at the condo as much today as when we were first introduced to it.

The enjoyment factor should be enough to want to own a condominium, but the business side has been positive also.  The revenue generated by the unit rentals has assisted in offsetting mortgage and maintenance costs.  The equity value of the condo has risen substantially since its time of purchase.  To have a professional staff and management team handle the day to day operations offers wonderful peace of mind.

My letter makes it clear that I am in great support of Pointes North.  I am confident that the Leino’s leadership and energy will create a positive future for Pointes North.  Take a good hard look at this opportunity.  I hope to meet you one day around the pool!

Roger C. Basse, Owner – Unit 201
